Dissertation Abstract

The dissertation abstract is the part of a dissertation, which sums up the whole paper, describing its main points in brief. The dissertation abstract is a sort of the dissertation overview, which is often printed in the scientific magazines or placed on some Internet sites in order to let people get acquainted with the general content of your dissertation.

The dissertation abstract is normally limited to contain no more than two-three hundred words. You are normally allowed to make it shorter, but not longer. You have to observe this rule in order to avoid the problems (for example, you may be asked to re-write the abstract of the dissertation).

The dissertation abstract has to present the topic of your dissertation and its purposes, point the prior researches and the work’s significance; it should also name the research method, and list the most important results. You should not write any other data in the abstract of your dissertation, as it may overload your dissertation abstract.

The abstract of the dissertation has to be written as a single paragraph. The word ‘abstract’ should be centered. The main text has to be printed by means of some standard font, such as Arial or Times New Roman. The rest of the dissertation abstract design depends on the writing style, which you apply to your dissertation.

When writing your dissertation abstract, use clear, precise and simple sentences. You had better avoid using terms in your dissertation abstract. Try to write it in simple words.

Be sure not to overload the abstract of your dissertation with extra information, since your dissertation abstract may turn out to be too long, which is not allowed. However, you should not forget to include all the necessary data into the dissertation abstract.
