All unusual or supplementary materials you use in your doctoral dissertation should be acknowledged in appendices. The appendices should be numbered within the text consequently.

Other materials should be referenced in your bibliography. Study the reference style chosen to get to know the main requirements for the arrangement of your bibliography. Remember that when you neglect to acknowledge any source you have resorted to, the risk of being convicted in plagiarism increases.
Doctoral Dissertations: Superscripts, Subscripts and Equations
Superscripts and subscripts should be one size smaller than the text itself. Double-space your equations.
Doctoral Dissertations: Footnotes and Endnotes
Check out where footnotes and endnotes should be placed. This depends on the reference style you work with. In most cases, you need to single-space footnotes and endnotes with an extra space between notes.
Doctoral Dissertations: Margins
Type page numbers in the upper right-hand corner. Leave one inch from the top and the sides of the paper. Again, find out what margins are presupposed be the reference style your work should be formatted in. Normally, they are 1 inch on all sides.
Doctoral Dissertations: Paper Quality
Use high quality paper, 8-1/2 x 11 inches.
Doctoral Dissertations: Print
Use a laser printer to print out your doctoral dissertation. Print single-sided pages, use 10 to 12 font. Use black print with a clear image.
